The transitional fossil that wasn't!

Evolutionists like to point to the evolution of mammals as a well evidenced series of steps from creatures called therapsids (which were a subgroup of non-mammalian synapsids) living about 200 million years ago.  One key fossil which is said to be transitional is Morganucodon.

The case for Morganucodon as a transitional fossil is mainly based on a skull discovered in Wales.

It is claimed that it had a double jaw joint and mandibular middle ear, which makes it transitional between mammals and their supposed ancestors.

However key parts were missing or disarticulated including the jaw joint and the middle ear bones as explained here.
